A punty; a metal rod found in the glassblowing process. After a glass vessel has-been blown to approximate dimensions while the base of this piece was completed, the rod, that is tipped with a wad of hot cup, is connected to the base regarding the vessel to put up it whilst top is completed. It usually makes an irregular or ring-shaped scar regarding base when removed labeled as the "pontil mark".
