    • The natural element 3,5-dihydroxytoluene, within many lichens and synthesizable from toluene.
    • A colorless crystalline compound, C6H3.CH3.(OH)2, which will be obtained from particular lichens (Roccella, Lecanora, etc.), also from herb of aloes, and artificially from certain derivatives of toluene. It changes readily into orcein.
    • A peculiar color matter, represented because of the formula C7H6(OH2), gotten from the orchella-weed also lichens.
