A poisonous organic base (a ptomaine) formed inside decomposition of protagon with boiling baryta liquid, plus the putrefaction of proteid matter. It had been for a long period considered identical with choline, a crystalline body originally gotten from bile. Chemically, however, choline is oxyethyl-trimethyl-ammonium hydroxide, while neurine is vinyl-trimethyl-ammonium hydroxide.
