  • noun:
    • The larval stage of a tapeworm
    • A sexless, encysted phase of particular tapeworms, as Bothriocephalus. If imperfectly prepared seafood infested aided by the parasite in this phase is consumed by man, the metacestode develops in to the mature tapeworm. Also known as plerocestode.
