lenard rays definition

  • noun:
    • Rays emanating from outer surface of a plate made up of any material permeable by cathode rays, as aluminium, which forms a portion of a wall of a vacuum pipe, or that will be attached in the pipe and confronted with radiation from cathode. Lenard rays tend to be comparable in every their known properties to cathode rays. So named through the German physicist Philipp Lenard (b. 1862), who initially described them.
