Any of several species of kingfishers into the genus Dacelo, recognized for their particular laugh-like call.
The native title adopted as a standard title for the laughing-jackass, Dacelo gigas, a sizable types of kingfisher. The name is thoroughly utilized about Sydney and is distributed by E. P. Ramsay in the “Catalogue of Australian wild birds.” See cut under Dacelo.
