    • Embryology Exhibiting cleavage in which the whole egg distinguishes into specific blastomeres.
    • Cleaving, and dividing into individual blastomeres.
    • Undergoing total segmentation; composed entirely of germinal matter, the whole of the yolk undergoing fission; -- opposed to meroblastic.
  • others:
    • Wholly germinal: used by Remak to those eggs when the entire yolk is formative—that is, goes through segmentation in development: opposed to meroblastic. Mammals, excepting monotremes, have holoblastic eggs. See cut-under gastrulation.
