  • noun:
    • Accidental omission of a letter or letter team that ought to be repeated in writing, for instance, mispell for misspell.
    • In paleography and textual criticism: A copyist's technical or inadvertent omission of a letter, or of a number of letters or words, duplicated in immediate succession within the passing of the original manuscript copied.
    • A reading originating in such an omission. See dittography.
