front bench definition

  • noun:
    • the very first workbench on either side of the aisle in a parliament, set aside for ministers and frontrunners for the major governmental events.
    • In the House of Commons, either of two benches nearest the floor of the chamber, one occupied because of the people in the Cabinet and the various other because of the Shadow Cabinet.
    • Those Members of Parliament occupying the front benches.
