  • noun:
    • Any of a course of organic compounds corresponding toward inorganic salts and formed from an organic acid and an alcohol.
    • A compound most frequently created by the condensation of an alcohol and an acid, with eradication of liquid. It has the functional team carbon-oxygen double bond joined via carbon to a different air atom.
    • An ethereal sodium, or compound ether, consisting of an organic radical united with the residue of any oxygen acid, organic or inorganic; hence the natural fats tend to be esters of glycerin and the efas, oleic, etc.
    • Same as element ether (which see, under ether).
    • formed by reaction between an acid and an alcohol with removal of water
