  • noun:
    • A parliamentary process where discussion is concluded and an instantaneous vote is taken on matter under discussion. Also referred to as closure.
    • In legislative assemblies that permit unlimited debate (filibuster); a motion, treatment or rule, in which debate is ended so that a vote may be taken from the matter. Including, in the United States Senate, a three-fifths vast majority vote of the human anatomy is required to invoke cloture and terminate discussion.
