Synonyms Brute, Brutish, Brutal, Beastly, Bestial. Brute is the most basic of the words, and continues to be closest on distinguishing distinction between guy and beast, irrationality: as, brute power. Brutish is especially uncultured, stupid, groveling: since, brutes but still much more brutish men. Brutal implies cruelty or insufficient sensation: as, intense language or conduct. Beastly expresses whatever is altogether unworthy of a man, specifically what is filthy and disgusting in conduct or manner of life. Bestial is applied chiefly to that particular which can be carnal, sensual, lascivious: since, bestial vices or appetites.
