An edentate mammal, of this genus Orycteropus (Orycteropus afer), notably resembling a pig, typical in a few elements of Southern Africa. It is a nocturnal ungulate, burrows into the ground having its powerful claws, and feeds completely on ants and termites, which it grabs featuring its lengthy, extensile, slimy tongue. It will be the sole extant representative of the order Tubulidentata.
