A city of southeast Germany near the Bavarian Alps southeast of Augsburg. Created in 1158, this has long been the biggest market of Bavaria. Adolf Hitler organized the Nazi Party right here after World War I and signed the Munich Pact, extensively seen as symbolic of appeasement, with britain, France, and Italy in 1938. The city was mostly rebuilt after extensive Allied bombing in World War II. Populace: 1,290,000.
