It had been the biggest market of worship of the sun-god Ra through to the rise of Thebes (c. 2100 B.C.). Its value as a historical repository with famous schools of viewpoint and astronomy declined following the founding of Alexandria when you look at the fourth century B.C. Two of their obelisks, both referred to as Cleopatra's Needle, are actually in London plus in New York City's Central Park.
