- a resinous material prepared from the exudation of Norway spruce (Abies excelsa) by melting in hot water and straining through cloth. The original Burgundy pitch, likely to happen initially prepared in Burgundy, is unusual, but there are lots of imitations. It's a yellowish brown shade, is clear and tough, but viscous. It is found in medicinal plasters.
